Abstract

Dans le cadre des théories traditionnelles de la croissance, l'ouverture à l'extérieure des économies devrait entraîner une accélération de la croissance des pays en développement et, à terme, une convergence de l'ensemble des pays vers un même niveau de produit par tête. Ces faits stylisés ne se retrouvent pas dans la réalité. Au-delà des théories de la "convergence conditionnelle" (Barro), cet article tente de montrer que les écarts de croissance peuvent mieux se justifier dans le cadre des théories de la croissance endogène : les écarts de niveaux de vie peuvent logiquement s'accroître et la convergence, même conditionnelle, devenir un objectif impossible à atteindre.
