Determinantes sociales de la trayectoria universitaria en Chile. El caso de la Universidad Católica del Norte

Abstract

La literatura sobre el sistema chileno de Educación Superior presenta una evidente carencia de trabajos sociológicos, especialmente de aquellos que se enmarcan en las teorías de la reproducción social. En este sentido, nuestro artículo trata de ser un aporte al desarrollo de esta línea de investigación muy consolidada en Europa. Hemos estudiado los determinantes sociales de la trayectoria escolar en los estudiantes de la Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN) desde la teoría de Bourdieu utilizando un análisis multivariante. El modelo propuesto analiza cuatro momentos vitales de su trayectoria escolar: I) la elección del tipo de colegio, II) los resultados en la PSU, III) la elección del tipo de carrera, IV) la permanencia en dicha carrera. en este artículo se presenta un resumen de los resultados obtenidos para los dos primeros momentos y se muestran, en forma más detallada, los resultados de los dos últimos.
