Enclaves Exportadores Modernos Versus Tradicionales: la minería extranjera en la región de Antofagasta

Abstract

El concepto de enclave económico se usa para explicar el bajo impacto de las inversiones extranjeros sobre su entorno. Llama la atención que la literatura económica no haya desarrollado este concepto como la sociología y la ciencia política. En particular, analizamos lo que sucede en un país capitalista de desarrollo medio como Chile, especializado en la minería, y fuertemente integrado a la economía mundial. Para ello usamos como caso de estudio a la Región de Antofagasta (Chile) porque es considerada por las autoridades chilenas un caso de polo de crecimiento. En este trabajo discutiremos críticamente esa afirmación y proponemos avanzar desde el concepto de enclave exportador tradicional al de enclave exportador moderno. Sostenemos que el enclaves moderno de Antofagasta, configura una estructura distinta al enclave tradicional y al polo de crecimiento.
