Disciplina de mercado en el sistema bancario boliviano

Abstract

Las crisis financieras han abierto una amplia discusión acerca de la implementación de una adecuada regulación sobre las entidades bancarias. Para mejorar el desempeño y los procesos en la toma de riesgos, las redes de seguridad cuentan con dos mecanismos: la disciplina de mercado y la regulación y supervisión bancaria. Los depositantes pueden ejercer disciplina de mercado retirando sus fondos o demandando mayores tasas de interés de los bancos más riesgosos. Por su parte, la regulación puede restringir directamente las operaciones de los bancos o llevar a cabo acciones correctivas si la solvencia del banco está comprometida. El estudio examina los factores que consideran los depositantes para mantener o retirar sus ahorros de una determinada entidad bancaria. Los resultados sugieren evidencia a favor de la existencia de disciplina de mercado y de que los factores sistémicos y las variables macroeconómicas también influyen en las decisiones de los depositantes.
