La economía del carbón en el Caribe Colombiano

Abstract

La participación creciente del carbón en variables tales como PIB departamental, PIB per cápita y regalías, exportaciones, divisas y empleo, entre otras, se constituyó en una justificación de la presente investigación. En este documento se adelanta un análisis de la actividad carbonífera en La Guajira, Cesar y Córdoba, para el peíodo de 1980 a 1997. Con la experiencia ganada en el mercado internacional durante los ultimos 15 años, la minería del carbón en Colombia, está preparada para impulsar una serie de nuevas explotaciones en los departamentos de La Guajira y Cesar. La producción a principios del siglo XXI será de 60 millones de toneladas de crabón, lo que convertirá este producto en el segundo generador de divisaS en Colombia.
