Ganaderos y comerciantes en Sincelejo, 1880-1920

Abstract

Los cultivos de caña, los trapiches y los alambiques para destilar aguardiente y ron fueron una constante en la economía de las Sabanas de Tolú desde las primeras décadas del siglo XVII. Además de las destilerías ilegales, cuando el “congregador de pueblos” Antonio de la Torre y Miranda llegó a esta subregión de la provincia de Cartagena en la década de 1770, encontró un número considerable de españoles y criollos dedicados a la actividad ganadera. De las cuarenta y cuatro poblaciones fundadas o refundadas por De la Torre y Miranda, San José de Corozal se convirtió en el epicentro político y militar de las Sabanas, por encima de otras parroquias como San Benito Abad, San Rafael de Chinú, San Luis de Sincé o San Francisco de Sincelejo.
