The Lucky High Schooler Hypothesis: Nuevo León from a Comparative Perspective

Abstract

Se propone una estrategia de análisis comparativo entre tres áreas geográficas del país (Nuevo León, Ciudad de México y la región sur) para estimar las probabilidades de lograr un alto nivel socioeconómico debido a la escolaridad alcanzada, más allá de la influencia del hogar de origen. Se revisa la «hipótesis del estudiante preparatoriano suertudo», que, con base en el contexto, supone que la escolaridad no es un factor determinante para subir en la escalera socioeconómica. Sin embargo, el modelo muestra que la educación superior aumenta la probabilidad de las personas de ubicarse en el tercer tercil de bienestar y en Nuevo León la reproducción social es menor. Para este análisis se utilizaron los datos de la Encuesta ESRU-EMOVI 2017 y la Encuesta ESRU-EMOVI Nuevo León 2021.
