Golf Courses Development And The Impact On The Local Economy

Abstract

From last decade, there has been an increase on golf courses construction along Spain and other European countries. Most of those more recent built include housing development and became the highest quality level residential areas in some of the Spanish territories. For the domestic population, this is a very new style of life and only a few is known about their impact on urban areas, the type of housing demand they exhibit or their effect on the neighbourhood. A project trying to analyse the environmental effects of golf courses and the forces driving this phenomena has been conducted including a survey checking for the housing demand features and their profile and mobility patterns. This paper shows some of the findings of this project.
