Abstract

Excerpts from the Introduction: A 16-year record is here shown of farm adjustments and income on common family-operated farms throughout our major agricultural regions, through war and peace and through good years and bad, as measured by prices, costs, drought, depression, and demand. This record should contribute materially to formulating and building sound agricultural programs for the immediate future and for the forthcoming years. This report is therefore intended for the administrators, the researchers, and the students and individuals who are interested in the various aspects of agriculture and agricultural development. It presents basic data on farm organization, production, production efficiencies, mechanization, investment, income, prices, costs, and returns to capital and labor in each year from 1930 to 1945 on commercial family-operated farms of given sizes and types in a number of the more important agricultural areas in the United States.
