Outdoor Recreation in North-Central New Mexico, 1967

Abstract

Recreational visitors to north-central New Mexico were surveyed in 1967 to determine the use they made of the area. The survey was based on responses of 2,333 overnight visitors to the recreation area. Various characteristics of the visiting parties, their expenditures, and their opinions of the adequacy of selected facilities are summarized. The findings of the survey indicate that the resources of the study area could be more fully utilized for recreation. In general, visitors expressed dissatisfaction with the quantity and quality of the facilities that were available. If the area is to be developed to its full recreational potential, buildings, equipment, and services will have to be improved and expanded to more fully meet the needs and desires of the visitors.
