Frozen Food Locker Plants in the United States, Seventeenth Annual Count, January 1954

Abstract

Excerpts from the report: The number of frozen food locker plants in the United States totaled 10,854 in January 1954, a decline of 1 percent during 1953. Yesterday's locker plant primarily furnished zero storage and limited custom processing services, largely to farmers. Today's locker plant has become a community frozen food center in many localities. Such plants provide complete processing, storing, and marketing services, not only to locker patrons, but to an increasing number of home freezer users, institutions, and other outlets.
