Apple Storage and Packing Facilities for Southern Illinois

Abstract

Excerpts from the report: This study developed out of a request for assistance from the Illinois Department of Agriculture in early 1961. Primary objective was to plan centralized apple storage and packing facilities designed to meet the particular needs of the southern Illinois producing area on an economically sound basis. Most of the fiscal data were developed through field inquiries and research into the costs of construction and operation of similar facilities in Michigan, New York, and the Appalachian area This study is part of a broad program of continuing research by the Agricultural Marketing Service, designed to hold down the cost of marketing farm products.
