Abstract

Excerpts from the report: Only a few comprehensive studies have been made of contracting and other forms of vertical integration in the turkey industry. Although previous reports have indicated that changes were taking place in the structure of the industry within particular areas, there have been no previous overall surveys of major turkey-producing areas. This report is concerned with the changes in production and integration in the industry in the major producing areas of the United States. The detailed objectives of the study were to: 1. Identify the major integrators in the industry. 2. Describe the methods used to integrate stages of production and marketing. 3. Determine the regional differences in organization and coordination in the industry. 4. Project the future role of various types of firms in integration in the turkey industry.
