Abstract
--------------------------------------------------------- This article aims to investigate the causes of the reduction of the participation of Brazil’s exports of the soluble coffee after nineties. Particularly, it verifies the extent to which the global demand for the Brazilian soluble coffee reflects the imposition of discriminatory tariffs by some European Union and Eastern European countries. For that purpose, dynamic demand models regarding the Brazilian soluble coffee were estimated for the 1995-2003 period. Panel data from International Coffee Organization were used. The results suggest that the existing tariffs, allied to an increase of the green coffee input in the international market in recent years significantly account for the reduction Brazilian soluble participation in the world.
