Abstract
The present study had the goal to analyze the competitiveness of the Brazilian fruits front of the greatest growers of main fruits that compose our list of exportation: banana, citrus (orange, lime/lemon and tangerine), apple, papaya, mango, cantaloupes and grape - presented in alphabetical order. Together they represented in 2007 about 93% of the income generated with the exportation of fruits in the Country. The productivity of the greatest growers and the income with exportation of the countries that point out in this scene had also been valued. For such analysis were used statistics data of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO/ONU), Agricultural Marketing Service and Foreign Agricultural Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (AMS-FAS/USDA) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistic (IBGE), of the average of the triennial 1993/95 and 2003/05. One concluded is that the Brazilian fruits have been gaining prominence in the international market in the last ten years. Because of the increasing demand for healthful foods, especially fresh foods, and the technological advances in the production and transport logistic, among other things, it was possible to expand the international transaction of the Brazilian fruits, raising in 62% the world-wide income with exportation when analyzed the average of the triennial 1993/95 and 2003/05. The trend is that more and more people start worrying about the health and well-being, extending the consumption of fruits. This can provide new increases in the production and world-wide exportation, mainly of the producing countries of the South Hemisphere, that supply the North when these are in period between harvests.
