Abstract
A legislação brasileira, a ausência de linhas de crédito específicas e o investimento inicial são considerados os principais entraves a produção.-------------------The use of products based on medicinal plants emerges as a strong global trend. It’s considered a promising market and presents significant data, becoming an environment attractive to business. However, despite all social and economic importance, Brazil and Paraná has not adequately invested in the production, industrialization and distribution of these plants. In this context, this work aims to characterize and to analyze medicinal plants production in Paraná state. To do so secondary data were used, found in books, scientific papers, magazines and, especially, in government sites. It can be concluded from the research that there is an increase in supply and demand for medicinal plants, however the production system is deficient and unprepared to reacht this new market. The Paraná is the largest producer of medicinal plants in Brazil, but its biggest challenge is adding value to those products. The Brazilian legislation, the absence of specific credit conditions and the initial investment are considered the main obstacles to production.
