Abstract

The structure of agriculture is changing rapidly and the information producers need to manage their businesses is also changing accordingly. For years producers have used software such as FINPACK to develop annual cashflow plans and year-end financial analyses. Today’s producers demand much more frequent and detailed financial information including the ability to, 1) generate whole farm and enterprise financial analyses periodically throughout the year rather than just at year-end; 2) compare actual performance to the cashflow plan at regular intervals throughout the year; and 3) revise cash flow plans for the remainder of the year based on actual year-to-date performance. The data requirements to generate these reports is significantly greater than most farm financial software currently require. This paper will discuss projects initiated to integrate existing financial planning, accounting and production management software programs into comprehensive management systems.
