New Zealand Sheep and Beef Industry

Abstract

The main features of the New Zealand Sheep and Beef Industry are: Profits and production are driven by world prices. The majority of sheep and beef production is exported. Sheep and beef production are closely integrated. Sheep and beef cattle graze pasture year round. Stock are finished to prime condition on pasture for slaughter. Dual purpose sheep produce both meat and wool. Production systems are aimed at minimising risk and maximising profit through low cost per unit of output.
