Aptitude de quelques graminées à constituer des réserves fourragères sur pieds

Abstract

A la Martinique, l'usage des réserves sur pied permet le report d'excédents fourragers de la fin de la saison des pluies au Carême. L'aptitude de quatre graminées fourragères à accumuler d'importantes quantités de matière sèche (Tripsacum laxum (Tl), Pennisetum purpureum (Pp), Brachiaria decumbens (Bd) et Panicum maximum (Pm)) est étudiée depuis trois années sur trois sites. Deux dates de mise en défends ont été retenues (un et deux mois avant le début supposé de la période séche). Pendant le Carême, le rendement en matière sèche et l'évolution de la composition morphologique (proportion de feuilles, tiges et débris) ont été mesurés toutes les quinzaines. La moyenne des rendements accumulés pour Bd, Pm, Tl et Pp ont été respectivement de 10.0, 11.3, 15.0 et 21.7 t MS/ha dont 17.5 %, 20.7 %, 40.1 % et 17.1 % de feuilles. T. laxum semble donc recommandé pour cette technique car il accumule jusqu'à 6.0 t MS/ha de feuilles durant la saison sèche, alors que Pp, Pm et Bd n'atteignent que 3.4, 2.3 et 1.7 t MS/ha chacun.
