Abstract

----- Definition of a control method for the yam nematode Scutellonema bradys with the help of the population dynamic studies. Recently introduce in Martinique, the occurence of Scutellonema bradys in yam fields rotated with other crops only results nowaday from the used of infested planting material. In the seed tuber, the S. bradys population is composed of equal proportions of females, males and juveniles. After planting, only females are able to move to roots and neo-tuber. The nematodes do not invade the root via the bud, but transit in the soi!. Germination and tuber emergence favorise the migration. As females are fertilized before to leave the seed tissue, they lay eggs immediatly after penetration. To prevent roots from nematode attacks, it is enough to coat the seed tuber with a material wich allow the passage of the shoot but not of the nematodes, such as wax
