Ensayo de Híbridos y Variedades de Maíz (Zea mays L.) del Programa UNPHU de Mejoramiento

Abstract

Con d ohjctivo princípal de huscar un aumento suhstancial de rendímiento en el cultívo dd maíz t:n la República Domínicana.a fin de poder competir con los precios a que se vende el maíz importado a través de la Ley PL-480, en la Finca Experimental de Nigua de la Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, se ha efectuado una evaluación de 41 materiales de maíz correspondientes a hibridos y variedades obtenidos en su mayor parte en la propia finca. Para el fin perseguido se está trabajando sobre los efectos aditivos utilizando métodos de selección recurrente, en la obtención de nuevos hibridos convencionales mediante el cruzamiento de líneas seleccionadas y con buena habilidad combinatoria, además utilizando ambos procedimientos para juntar en materiales el mejoramiento debido a efectos aditivos y el correspondiente al vigor híbrido mediante el cruzamiento de lúteas cuyas fuentes han sido de variedades mejoradas trabajando sobre los efectos aditivos. Nueve de los híbridos generados y una variedad de polinización abierta, ambas obtenidas en la Universidad, han superado al híbrido simple comercial introducido 3214, tropical pero originario de una empresa semi llera de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica.
