RESULTADOS DE UNA EVALUACION DE CULTIVARES DE MELON (Cucumis melo (...) EN LA SABANA HORTICOLA DE CORO, ESTADO FALCON, VENEZUELA

Abstract

En el area denominada El Cebollal, ubicada en la sabana horticola de Coro, Estado Falcon, Venezuela, caracterizada por presentar un clima arido y suelos de textura franco arenosa a arenosa, se evaluaron nueve cultivares de melon (Cucumis melo L.), durante el lapso de siembra comprendido entre los meses de enero y mayo de 1981. El cultivar mas productivo fue el Cantaloupe Chando, con un rendimiento de 21.723 kilogramos por hectarea, seguido por el hibrido experimental Cantaloupe XPH-914 y el hibrido Carnival, con 16.368 y 14.668 kilogramos por hectarea, respectivamente. Fueron estos ademas, los mas precoces, mostrando un ciclo entre los 70 y 75 dfas entre siembra y cosecha. Se destaca, asimismo, la tendencia al rajado de los frutos del cultivar Chando y la susceptibilidad de los cultivares Crenshaw y Amarelo a las enfermedades conocidas como mildiu lanoso y mildiu polvoriento.
