Abstract

Fit-for-purpose 21st century. Wherever existing economic and financial models are failing there is the need for an “add-on”, an extra bit of regulation, legislation and the underlying theory and CSR model on which it is based. Only models that take everything into account can possible be fit for the purpose of properly managing all the consequences of all activities of all people. Unfortunately the existing situation based on flawed and incomplete financial and economic models is fundamental to our way of life, our very survival, and is accepted by billions of people throughout the whole world so it is impossible to replace the underlying models. All we can we do is try to cobble together a fix. CSR is this fix. Traditional economic / financial model together with any appropriate tack-on CSR model to fix it’s omissions and failings, are the best hope we have of contributing to the better management of Corporations and the consequences of their activities at this time. Over the last decade or so the inter-net has facilitated the proliferation of e-Information on all topics including CSR beyond almost all expectations. Despite numerous attempts to restrict, or at least manage, this phenomenon, this growth has been more or less free, unrestricted in both content and scale. This enormous “pool” of e-Information contains a huge amount of e-Information power to transform our lives, of which, as yet only a tiny fraction has been released. This article focuses on any and all e-Information relating to CSR and looks at what would need to be done in order to release all its power for the purposes of managing ourselves better. In particular, and perhaps most usefully, some issues are identified that if resolved might make the use of the internet for answering any and all CSR questions more speedy, efficient, effective and enable the sharing of CSR research results more widely and usefully.
