Les Banques et la Transmission de la Politique Monetaire dans l'Union economique et Monetaire Ouest-Africaine

Abstract

Ce document vise a examiner le role des banques dans la transmission de la politique monetaire au sein de l'Union economique et monetaire ouest-africaine (UEMOA). En utilisant un modele theorique simple, ce travail montre que l'amelioration de la qualite des institutions et l'augmentation de la concurrence renforcent la transmission de la politique monetaire alors que l'exigence de capital se comporte comme un cout supplementaire pour les emprunteurs. En appliquant un estimateur de panel dynamique a un large echantillon de banques de l'UEMOA, le document constate que le pret bancaire est sensible a la politique monetaire et que les banques a capital limite reduisent davantage leurs prets a la suite d'une politique monetaire stricte par rapport aux banques a capital moins limite. En outre, une amelioration de la qualite des institutions semble renforcer la transmission de la politique monetaire.
