Abstract

Die Entwicklung Westafrikas im Berichtsjahr wurde geprägt durch gewaltsame Konflikte, allen voran ab September dem ivorischen Bürgerkrieg mit seinen fatalen grenzüberschreitenden politischen und wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen. Demgegenüber traten mehr oder weniger ernsthafte Bemühungen der herrschenden politischen Klasse verschiedener Staaten, den formalen Demokratisierungsprozess im Rahmen von freien Wahlen voran-zubringen, in den Schatten.
