Abstract

Nach der 2001 gewonnenen Präsidentschaftswahlen und angesichts einer in sich zerstrittenen Opposition konnte das "System Kérékou" seine Anpassungsfähigkeit abermals unter Beweis stellen und seine Herrschaftsstruktur auch im Bereich der informellen Politik konsolidieren. Bei den Kommunalwahlen im Dezember fiel der Sieg der Opposition nicht so eindeutig aus wie erwartet. Die Wirtschaft verzeichnete erstaunlich hohe Wachstumsraten, die Kluft zwischen Arm und Reich wurde aber immer größer.
