Abstract

Das Beniner Demokratie-Modell wurde durch die zweiten Präsidentschaftswahlen nach 1989 einer erneuten Bewährungsprobe unterzogen, die es mit einem demokratisch legitimierten Regierungswechsel erfolgreich bestand; die aufrechte und unabhängige Rechtsprechung des Verfassungsgerichtes hatte daran einen maßgeblichen Anteil. Die Rückkehr des ehemaligen "marxistischen" Militärmachthabers Kérékou durch demokratisch legitimierte Wahlen erregte internationale Aufmerksamkeit bzw. Irritation und wurde insbesondere von den alten und neuen Militärdiktatoren Afrikas mit Genugtuung begrüßt.
