Abstract

Der demokratische Erneuerungsprozeß in Benin, der Ende 1989 begann, hat sich im Berichtsjahr fortgesetzt und konsolidiert. Er gilt als beispielhaft für Afrika. Benin ist der erste afrikanische Staat, in dem ein "ziviler coup d'état", analog der Erneuerungsbewegungen in Osteuropa stattfand. Die Wirtschaftsentwicklung Benins langte 1990 anscheinend auf der Talsohle an. Der Wiederaufbau des 1988/89 zusammengebrochenen nationalen Bankensystems mit maßgeblicher Hilfe ausländischer Geber zeigte erste Erfolge.
