Abstract

Die von Eyadéma bereits im vergangenen Jahr begonnene reaktionäre machiavellische Machtpolitik und brutale Terrorakte der Armee und Sicherheitskräfte bewirkten eine Ein-schüchterung der Über¬gangsregierung Koffigohs und die Vertreibung der meisten Oppositionsführer ins Ausland oder in den Untergrund. Diese systematische Destabilisierungspolitik isolierte das Eyadéma-Regime zu¬nehmend im Ausland und hatte schwerwiegende Auswirkung auf Wirtschaft, Kultur und Gesell¬schaft. Die Op¬position griff schließlich zum letzten ihr verbleibenden Mittel friedlichen Widerstan¬des, dem Gene¬ralstreik, der in den urbanen Zentren Verwaltung, Banken und Staatsbetriebe weitge¬hend lahm legte.
