Abstract

Over the last 30 years, social capital (SC) has become a popular subject of studies in social sciences. In developmental and regional economics, as well as in management, the category of SC is usually linked with development of industrial clusters and their performance. In 2006, the European Commission decided to allocate a significant portion of the European Union (EU) Regional Development Fund to support cluster initiatives in its financial perspective of 2007–2013. Since then, the category of SC, as a catalyst of clustering, became important for EU policy makers in both the public and private sectors when attempting to determine how to allocate limited resources effectively and efficiently…
