Abstract

The Australian ‘National Interest’ in the Asian Century: Trade, Investment and Security is an important and timely conference topic, in light of the former Labor government's White Paper on Australia in the Asian Century (Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet [DPMC], 2012), the indications from the successor Coalition government that Asia will play a central role in its foreign policy, and the unfolding opportunities and challenges presented in Australian relations with China, Indonesia, the US, and the Indo-Asia-Pacific region more generally.
