Abstract

You may have many or few ideas, or big or trivial ideas; obviously, it is not economical to patent every single of them. If you work for an institution, it likely has a patent review committee, which is responsible for making a decision on filing patents. The key to making a filing decision is identifying the inventive concept that is patentable, and making a business decision based on a balance of the anticipated strength of the invention, its market potential and budget constraints. This chapter walks you through the various processes that must occur to convert your ideas into patents – the stage that is the most crucial in protecting your innovation.
