Abstract

In contrast to other college and university undergraduate and perhaps graduate students, men and women athletes have less time and also conflicts during their team’s sports season or seasons to attend and study for classes, complete and turn in homework assignments as scheduled, prepare for quizzes and examinations, and otherwise achieve high grades relative to their classmates. Indeed, they spend many hours practicing, training, and traveling to and from away games and playing others at home. As a result, many student athletes (SAs) underperform academically and also experience anxiety, pressure, and stress to remain eligible, especially when competing in such demanding revenue sports as football and men’s and women’s basketball…
