Abstract

It is evident that foreclosed homes pose externalities to the neighborhoods and communities that surround them. If the contrary were true, a crisis such as the subprime mortgage crisis would have been easier to contain. This chapter explores the specific externalities or “spillover effects” that affect communities. Understanding the effect that these externalities have on communities can help us get some useful knowledge on which aspects of those externalities cause the most harm in hopes of being able to contain them in the future…
