Abstract

Adam Smith was a professor of moral philosophy, and he is appropriately remembered for the underlying philosophical foundations that he provided for modern economics, yet The Wealth of Nations is full of quantitative analysis that is not explicitly philosophical, and I propose to look into his digressions into economic time series, in particular his analysis of wheat prices and related matters in Chap. XI, “Of the rent of the land” which rounds out Book I…
