Abstract

This chapter includes eight sections to deliberate the effective stakeholder management processes and practices in green construction projects. Section 12.1 provides an introduction and the common terminology of stakeholder management. Section 12.2 identifies all stakeholders along the green construction supply chain. Section 12.3 discusses the tools and techniques for analyzing the stakeholder involvement and influences across the value chain. Section 12.4 discusses the current processes and practices of stakeholder engagement in green construction projects. A detailed comparison is conducted between the stakeholder management practices of traditional construction and green construction to identify new approaches and future directions. The challenges for stakeholder engagement in construction projects are also discussed. Section12.5 discusses the impact of effective stakeholder management on decision-making and project success. It further provides decision-making strategies for effective stakeholder management in green projects. In Section 12.6, a demonstration case is presented to discuss real-life stakeholder management in green construction projects. The selected demonstration case is conducted to develop a solar building envelope (also known as building-integrated photovoltaics — BIPV) design and management tool. The content of this chapter is useful for project managers, project developers, and stakeholder group leaders as it provides a guide for effective stakeholder management in green construction projects. Further, the chapter contributes to the body of knowledge by specifically discussing the stakeholder management process of green construction projects, acknowledging sustainability and green concepts.
