Abstract

Desktop analytics are useful for planning. R itself is now embedded in Microsoft Excel as Basic Excel R Toolkit or BERT, enhancing the use of the already popular business utility. What has been covered in the earlier chapters could be replicated in Excel and there are some types of analytics well suited to that platform. These are discussed in later chapters. The efforts incurred would, however, have gained limited returns if analytics like a rating system cannot be deployed in an automated process to support intensive and time-critical operational decision-making. In many developed countries, there is a demand for retail credit approval decisions to be made in no more than five seconds from the time of application. With today’s level of digital data flow, any financial institution that is too slow in making the necessary analysis will find itself outcompeted soon. The ORR development process described earlier will be used to discuss the merits of deployment for automation…
