Abstract

In 2009, Northwest Airlines Flight 188 overshot their destination by more than 240 km due to pilot distraction. Both pilot and co-pilot were busy on their laptops. Distractions keep us from focusing on the task in front of us, whether we are flying or trading. I also plead guilty to this. Hunting for food in the cupboard or opening an extra browser tab for yet another interesting website is a distracting displacement activity distracting us from real work. It won’t lead to a potential airline disaster, but it certainly won’t help us find the next trade…
