Abstract

The governance structure of community-based health insurance (CBHI) comprises members of the community who are also the owners of the scheme. The model is driven by the principle of subsidiarity which posits that every social or economic issue should be dealt with at the most immediate (or lowest) level that can resolve it while respecting camaraderie and human dignity. We learn about the roles and responsibilities of each key actor and their contribution in the various business processes of the scheme.
