Abstract

Looking back on the concept of methodology, and the specific qualitative methodologies as discussed, two observations may be made:The choice of a specific methodology should be based on the type of knowledge and insight you would like to acquire, and the context of the study. For each type of methodology specific starting points and ensuing methodological characteristics must be observed. Generally, when a (fully) matured theory is the starting point, it will prescribe a way to “see the world”, a coherent way to collect the data, and a consistent way to analyse the data. If, and only if these requirements are met manuscripts unveiling methodological rigour may be anticipated.
