Abstract

This chapter consists of sections on Introduction, Historical Overview, The Environment for Entrepreneurship and Toward the Future. Introduction, as follows:The Principality of Liechtenstein covers 160 square kilometres of fertile Alpine terrain (Exhibit 13.1) between Austria and Switzerland. Its capital city is Vaduz. Despite its small geographic area and the lack of abundant natural resources, this constitutional monarchy has managed to achieve notable economic importance. Liechtenstein’s flag was officially adopted on June 24, 1937 and modified several times since then (Exhibit 13.2).Prince Franz Josef II (1906–1989) is credited for building up a formerly poor country into one of the wealthiest in Europe, during his reign from 1938 to 1989. Booth noted that in 1946, nearly half of all Liechtensteiners were farmers and that by 1981 this country was “the most intensively industrialized nation on earth. Some 50 light-to-medium industries run the gamut from central-heating systems to sausage skins” (1981, p. 273)…
