Abstract

This chapter consists of sections on Introduction, Historical Overview, The Environment for Entrepreneurship and Toward the Future. Introduction, as follows:The Kingdom of Denmark includes the peninsula of Jutland and the island of Zealand along with 405 smaller ones, in all covering 43,094 square kilometres, sharing a border with Germany. Since 2000, the Øresund Link bridge tunnel connects Denmark to Sweden. Denmark’s capital is Copenhagen (on Zealand), since 1903 home to the Little Mermaid (see Exhibit 5.1) — literary creation of Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875). Among entrepreneurs of Denmark were J. C. Jacobsen (1811–1887), founder of Carlsberg, with the first Bavarian lager brewery in Denmark and the first brew completed in 1847; Peter Mærsk Møller (1836–1927) and his son, Arnold Peter Møller (1876–1965) whose enterprise evolved into the AP Møller–Mærsk group; and Ole Kirk Christiansen (1891–1958) inventor of Lego (Exhibit 5.2). Denmark ranked number one in the 2016 Happiness Index, with per capita GNP among the world’s highest.
