Importance of Structural Change for Czech Employment Development12

Abstract

The Czech Republic has been relatively well performing country in the field of employment development in the region of Central Europe, however, this development has been still relatively under its potential when compared to developed western countries. Among the couple of potential contributors to this performance, the rapid growth of labour productivity was one to blame for weak outcome of employment intensity of economic growth. However, the paper also provides elaboration of other determinants of employment intensity of growth. The one of them is structural change of economy which occurred in recent two decades and was proved to play significant part in employment development in Czech Republic. Also change in share of imported intermediate products on total production proved to be negatively influencing employment. The contribution of change in the structure of final demand was found to be strictly negative.
