Abstract

During the communist period, the communist regime has established a compulsory education for the whole Romanian population, including for the Roma population, by imposing ten years of compulsory education. The Romanian educational system has been confronted with many challenges during the transition of our country from a centralized economy to a market economy, and these have affected the Roma population to a greater extent than the rest of the population. The main purpose of our analysis is to present facts and reflections with regard to the education of the Roma population in Romania, with a focus on the period after the Romanian revolution from December 1989.
