Abstract

Climate change is the biggest challenge for the world economy since the ­industrial revolution. Climate change is partly man-made and can be influenced. As it seems to be inevitable that the world temperature will increase by about 2°C until the end of this century, it will be important to consider adaptation measures to be prepared for the long-term impacts. But it is an even more essential issue to start with effective mitigation actions as soon as possible to avoid temperature increases which might be substantially above this limit and might lead to a catastrophic change of the worldwide ecosystems.
