Abstract

In this chapter, the author places the rise and fall of the British Empire over the past three and a half centuries within the larger flow of world and “Global History”, reconsidering the global historical significance of the British Empire as a “bridge” for constructing a new Global History, and the dynamic role that Asia played in this process.
