Abstract

Taking common cause failures (CCFs) into account is of utmost importance to bring to light the weak points of a system. This chapter is the specific application to reliability block diagrams, fault trees and minimal cut sets of the development presented in Chap. 5 which provides a general description of common cause failures. The modelling of tangible and non-tangible CCFs is proposed in relationship with beta-factor and shock models. The handling of lineage CCFs (i.e. CCF impacting similar items from the same origin) through data uncertainty calculations is explained and the limitations of the Boolean approaches to take into account the restoration time of items impacted by CCFs are analysed.
