Abstract

As noted in the previous chapter, we can look at the future as a dot on the horizon and then use backcasting to develop a strategy. We can also try to forecast the future on the basis of different variables and then use scenario planning to elaborate strategies or create future images. But we can also use another way to have a glimpse of the future, as the future can be seen as an artefact that is manmade. This is where Saras Sarasvathy points at in her work about effectuation. In this chapter, we will elaborate on entrepreneurship, using the work of Sarasvathy. We also pay attention to the work of the ITEM group concerning design science research, as we do concerning entrepreneurship by the centre for design science in entrepreneurship. In the end, we look at the Journal of Business Venturing Design, especially focused on entrepreneurship from a design science research perspective.
