Abstract

In this chapter, we will elaborate the topic of strategy, using the logic of causality to design them by looking forward (scenario planning or forecasting) or taking an imaginative point in time and design the strategy backward (backcasting). We will also pay attention to future images and their relationship with forecasting or backcasting. In the next chapter, we will introduce the work of Saras Sarasvathy, which is centred around the theory of effectuation. Though both can lead to designing artefacts, making use of (the way of thinking behind) design science research, they also can be seen as different, and even contractionary, paradigms.
