Abstract

This chapter explores the technology and protocols that enable seamless data flow in the world of logistics. It begins with an analysis of the core components of a basic network, progressing to the intricacies of client/server computing, packet switching, and the transformative role of TCP/IP protocols. The chapter navigates through the OSI model, internet and web technologies, IP addresses, DNS, URLs, and HTTP. It also addresses the critical need for data security through VPNs and discusses the evolution of cellular networks from 3G to 5G, as well as the significance of wireless technologies like Bluetooth, WiFi, and WiMAX. This comprehensive understanding of network and telecommunications infrastructure is crucial in connecting logistics operations in the digital age.
